A major revision was done on July 28th, 24, with two reviewers. One was very careful and provided a lot of comments, adding experiments, charts, and discussions; the other had fewer comments and was more perfunctory, mainly focusing on writing issues such as logical flow, and restructuring the introduction.

The revised version was submitted on August 12th, 24.

Then both reviewers disappeared, and no one agreed to review it. Finally, it was rejected in February 25th.

The process was quite fast. One of the three reviewers disappeared during the first review, and it took the editor a month to make a decision after the other two reviewers completed their reviews (I should have nudged them). Very very slow, submitted on August 20th, entered external review on August 21st, it took more than 5 months to find reviewers from 1 to 41, rejected on February 2nd, wasted a lot of time.

I explained the situation to Elsevier's customer service, mentioning that Reviewer #1 has not been responding to the second review. The customer service then forwarded my thoughts. Perhaps the revisions were very solid, as the only reviewer who responded, Reviewer #2, gave an immediate accept. Reviewer #1's first review was also quite positive. The editor then gave a direct accept.

Did you write a reminder letter? Well done! As for me, this foolish editor, after completing the review (experts' opinions are very good), I still have to find another reviewer. The submission was in June 2024, and now in January 2025, I am still looking for a reviewer. The editor (Sandra Carrasco) has no self-assessment ability in academics at all, it's really frustrating. Let's all be careful to avoid this pitfall.

Overall, it was a very positive experience. The editor, Chief Editor Carmine Galasso, was prompt in handling the manuscript each time.
