The difficulties arose when a public database + sample verification combination generated a flurry of emails before and after;
24-9-16 submission
24-9-17 asked me to confirm if ethical approval had been obtained (manuscript clearly stated, I replied that approval had been obtained)
24-9-23 asked why I needed ethical approval for the public database I was using (I clearly stated it was a combination of a database + sample verification, obviously they didn't even read the article and just talked nonsense with me)
24-9-23 the same day asked for the research plan for the clinical sample repository (including inclusion criteria) and the hospital's ethical review approval
24-9-27 asked why the head of the sample repository was not included in the list of authors (replied because the sample repository is shared by the department, not specifically collected for this study)
24-9-30 asked if this study (rather than the clinical sample repository) had obtained ethical approval, I replied that the sample repository used had obtained approval, using the sample repository for research can exempt ethical review and attached relevant regulations
24-10-2 received a template rejection email, the letter did not mention any of the above
I don't know what to say, the article that I urgently wanted to publish, unexpectedly encountered such an editor, sigh
