掲載範囲
The Journal publishes authoritative articles covering complex fluids, multiphase flows and subjects standing at intersection of fluid dynamics with materials processing and/or with the more general field of engineering optimization, which make it a truly interdisciplinary journal.

The breath of practical applicability of articles published over the last two decades is large, ranging from typical problems where a material is in a fluid (molten) state, to cases where it behaves as a fluid (slurries or dry granular systems) or interacts with a fluid (fluid/structure analysis and optimization). These problems are considered in their various realizations and manifestations at various (from the nano to the lab or industrial) scales in many sub-fields of engineering (mechanical, thermal, chemical, biomedical, nuclear, oil, civil, naval, aeronautical and aerospace engineering).

Relevant examples are metals and related alloys, salts, semiconductors, nanofibers, crystals produced from the melt or supersaturated solutions, nanomaterials and nanoparticles of various kinds, foams, plastics, polymers and other macromolecular substances (such as, e.g., proteins). Both inorganic or organic fluids or substances are covered, including special cases such as cement, ceramic materials, asphalt, resins, soil, food and biological samples of various kinds.

More fundamental or theoretical studies providing insights into the microphysical or macroscopic dynamics of both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids subjected to the thermal, chemical and mechanical stimuli encountered in typical material production or manufacturing processes also constitute a relevant part of the FDMP coverage (e.g. buoyancy or surface-tension driven convection occurring in a liquid due to an imposed temperature or concentration gradient).

We are also interested in manuscripts dealing with fluid/structure or fluid/material interaction mechanisms, i.e. all those cases where fluid-dynamic analysis is instrumental in guiding the design/optimization of the considered systems (or related components) and the selection of the required “materials” (example: the selection of a relevant metal alloy to manufacture the wing of an airplane able to cope with the stresses predicted by a related fluid-dynamic analysis).

Submissions related to the analysis of problems where an oil (or another liquid or gas) is extracted from (or injected into) a rock, a reservoir, or a soil, can also be considered, provided the following specific aspects are covered: fluid-based drilling, fluid flow interaction with complex fracture networks, fluid flow through a solid porous material, well cementing technologies. Experimental studies in the field of oil extraction that do not consider fluid-dynamic aspects should not be submitted to FDMP. The same concept also applies to numerical studies of such a kind, which are not based on or do not consider typical fluid-dynamic equations or models.

The peer review process of the journal is fast. It takes about a month to receive the comments from the reviewers, followed by 4 rounds of minor revisions. Generally, it takes half a month to receive the revision comments. The whole process from submission to acceptance takes a total of 4 months
