I have also wasted almost a year of time. I submitted in November 23rd and received reviewer comments in August of the following year (from 3 reviewers). I resubmitted around September and got rejected by the end of the month. All 3 reviewers recommended acceptance, so I emailed the editor-in-chief for another chance to revise. They agreed, so I resubmitted in late October. However, I was ultimately rejected by the EIC, as they receive too many articles of this kind.

Last April, I submitted my paper. In the first round, there were many comments from reviewers and two editors. I replied with over 10,000 words, and after all reviewers agreed to accept it, the editors only raised two formatting issues. I thought it was basically accepted, but after fixing the formatting issues, the editors sent it back for review again. Why didn't they send it for review earlier instead of just mentioning the formatting issues? It was frustrating. Then, after receiving feedback and making revisions, the reviewers agreed to accept it again, and the editors invited new reviewers once more. This cycle repeated four times, and I went through five rounds of revisions. Each time the reviewers were satisfied, new reviewers were invited. I don't understand what the editors were thinking. In the end, I had no choice but to withdraw my submission after wasting a year. The journal was pure frustration, and it serves them right to be warned.
