During the first round of revisions, it was requested to add references. Research articles should have at least 70 references, while review articles should have at least 100. I understand the requirement for 100 references for review articles, but is it really necessary for regular articles to have 70? I tried my best to add up to nearly 60 references, but I couldn't add any more. Is this the real reason for my rejection?

I suggest being cautious about submitting to this magazine. Here is my submission experience: an article on traditional Chinese medicine network pharmacology, combining bioinformatics with animal validation.

Revised according to the journal's requirements on February 21, and started external review
External review feedback on May 22: 3 reviewers, one recommended acceptance without revisions, one suggested minor revisions with few specific comments, and the third reviewer rejected the article, criticizing every aspect from the abstract to the discussion without specifying the shortcomings.
Requested to revise within a week by May 29, but due to busyness, the revision was delayed by 2 days.
Final decision on June 17: rejection. Reason: Based on the reviewers' comments, it was determined that additional work was required to make the article significant enough for the readership.
Argued via email on the same day, emphasizing why 2 out of 3 reviewers found the article acceptable but it was still rejected.
Maintained the rejection on June 20.
