If it has been more than 10 days since submission, it is polite to inquire about the progress of the manuscript with the editor. In subsequent instances, the editor only took action after being urged. (You can send an email through the submission system or contact Elsevier customer service to urge them.)

Still need to urge. The first review took four months, and the editor waited for three months for the third reviewer who never showed up. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I urged them and it was sent back for revision. There weren't many comments. I should have urged them earlier. The editorial department is still very efficient in handling manuscripts. It was immediately sent for review after submission.

In theory, the summer vacation abroad should have ended by now. I suspect that the journal may have already received enough articles this year and may not need more articles, so they have been delaying processing them and plan to include them at the end of the year for next year. (After all, the number of articles is estimated to be around 8,000 to 9,000, while only about 1,000 articles are published each year).
