I have been submitting my research to various journals for over half a year, and finally landed on this magazine. I am studying tumor immunology, but my knowledge of immunology is relatively shallow. The previous journal I submitted to was Cancer Immunology Research, with three reviewers, only one of whom recommended major revisions. Here is the timeline for this magazine: it opened for submissions on November 18, 2025, with several deadline changes along the way. By early January, it was completed under review (required under review completed), and then returned to the editor on January 8, 2026, with the decision in process. Ultimately, on January 13, it was rejected with the possibility to resubmit after major revisions. When I first saw the rejection and the words of regret in the email, I was taken aback, even though the homepage stated "Submissions Needing Revision for Author". I was still a bit panicked. The two reviewers' comments were relatively simple, possibly because it is not an immunology-specific journal, and the reviewers were lenient. I wish myself good luck, as this is the first time in over half a year of submitting that I have received a recommendation for major revisions. So sad~~~

After more than a month of submission, feedback was received from two reviewers. Reviewer 1 seemed to be familiar with the editor or a professional reviewer for the journal. They had very strict requirements for statistical and methodological descriptions, asking for explanations on why a certain method was chosen and its rationality, as well as demanding the disclosure of all code. After the code was made public, it was requested to be revised due to the presence of Chinese characters and a missing readme file. Reviewer 2 provided many suggestions for additional results. The first revision satisfied Reviewer 2, but Reviewer 1 requested a re-edit of the code and further transparency in the explanation of certain methods. After the second revision, the paper was conditionally accepted within a month, with the editor requesting changes to the abstract and figures. Overall, the standards of the journal were deemed worthy of JOH, with strict requirements and detailed feedback from the editor and reviewers. The most challenging part was the back-and-forth of revisions, with the final warning that the paper would be rejected if the issues were not addressed. It was indeed a difficult process.

I am very honored to have just received an article, which is one of only two new journals of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). Personally, it took about 6 months from submission to acceptance, with one month for revisions. I was quite fortunate as the reviewers gave positive feedback and constructive comments, but the editor suggested major revisions, giving me four months to work on it. I put in all my effort to conduct additional experiments, review literature, and have multiple discussions with my supervisor to refine the responses. After revising for 4 months, I anxiously waited for nearly 1 month to receive the acceptance notification. Looking back, I can only say it was not easy, quite challenging, and I look forward to more outstanding colleagues challenging this journal with fruitful results, hoping for continuous improvement
