I have published three papers in TBME. In general, the reviewing process is relatively fast as long as appropriate reviewers can be found. If the reviewers are responsible, the results can be out in about one to two months on average. However, if appropriate reviewers cannot be found or they disappear, the reviewing process may take more than four months. Fortunately, this situation does not happen very often.

Submitted on March 10, 2025, rejected on March 11, 2025. It's just ridiculous. The journal provided the option of surgical robots, and the article also conducted systematic experiments, including tissue experiments. The reason for rejection is to recommend submitting to journals related to robots. Is this a joke? Well, at least they rejected it quickly and didn't waste time.

The paper was submitted on October 15th last year, and after more than 4 months of review, it was rejected at the end of February this year. The opinions of the two reviewers were okay, but the editor rejected it, saying "So while the reviewers' comments to the authors may sometimes read as addressable, we can only accept a small portion of submissions we receive and must reject some papers ranked lower by reviewers (FYI, the current acceptance rate of TBME is about 12%)." It feels a bit frustrating.

After four months of review by two reviewers, one with a relatively positive opinion and the other more neutral but still open to revisions, the editor ultimately decided to reject the paper. The reason given was that although some of the reviewers' comments could be addressed, the journal can only accept a small portion of submissions and must reject some papers that are ranked lower by reviewers (for your information, the current acceptance rate of TBME is about 12%). It feels like a waste of time.
