2025.09.10 With Editor, a decision was made by 2025.09.30 for minor revisions (still taking 2 months for editing). As expected, the new reviewer raised more questions.

2025.10.29-11.01 Editing process, 2nd reviewer invited agreed and quickly completed the review (then the magic began).

2025.11.01-2026.04 System showed one reviewer completed, but still under review, the editor did not process the entire time.

2026.04.05 Suddenly received acceptance email (system did not display DIP, feels like the chief editor skipped the editing process).

Note: (1) Fortunately, it was finally accepted, after a full 2 years. It feels like the main reason was the editor, although some reviewers dropped out, the review speed was still good. The whole process consumed a lot of time in two periods: September 2024-December 2024 (RCC already, but editor had to wait for the third reviewer, which ultimately did not happen). November 2025-April 2026, (reviewer completed in a week, but editor did not process).

I will share a very rare case, it has been a long time, too detailed to remember, for reference only.
Submitted in mid-May 2024, the journal feedback exceeded the word limit, and it took about half a month of back and forth before the editor approved it on June 3, 2024—this process was quite fast.
On August 24, 2024, the editor invited reviewers to handle the manuscript (forgot the exact number).
On August 26, 2024, one reviewer completed the review (I was very worried at the time, it was too quick).
On August 28, 2024, another reviewer agreed to review.
On September 4, 2024, the third reviewer (RRC) was assigned.
On December 10, 2024, a major revision was suddenly requested (mainly because the third reviewer agreed to review but did not review, it was RRC for 3 months, it seems there was a DIP in November, then another DIP for over a month).
Submitted to the journal on January 21, 2025, and by the end of February, the editor still invited the first two reviewers for review.
From March 10 to March 15, 2025, the first reviewer agreed and completed the review.
From April 23 to July 7, 2025, the second reviewer disappeared, the editor invited a new reviewer, who completed the review (the timeliness of the editor's handling throughout the process was not good, and this issue became more serious later on).

Reply [ZSH666zsh]: I am not sure if the current system is showing 2+? You can subscribe to the Elsevier journal service (official account) to track the progress of journal submissions. Previously, it was showing 30+. Whether or not to urge depends on your situation. If you urgently need this article for graduation/completion/promotion, I suggest you wait a month or two before urging. However, based on my experience, urging may just result in a standard reply. It requires comments from two or more reviewers for the article to be sent back to the editor-in-chief for a decision. Additionally, there is another situation with this journal where reviewers disappear. In the case of my article, around August last year, four reviewers accepted the review invitation, but three of them disappeared during the process.
