The speed is really slow. I submitted on July 16th, and now it's August 31st and there's still no progress. The status just shows "Under Review" as soon as I submit, so I have no idea what step it's at. I don't even know if it's been rejected.

The overall process took over 4 months, which also meets the requirements of the official website. Personally, I feel that the speed of the journal's review process depends on the individual editor. If the editor likes your submission, they will quickly send it for review and actively help you find reviewers. For my first submission, I received revision comments in less than two weeks. I was amazed. 
The two editors I recently encountered were very nice and took the manuscripts seriously. However, the review process may take longer depending on the research topic. It seems that finding reviewers is difficult as many experts are unwilling to serve as reviewers. It appears that the issue of "the rich get richer" remains a challenge, especially in places with a high concentration of Chinese researchers.

On April 16th, the editor contacted the corresponding author saying they couldn't find reviewers and needed to wait.
As of August 23rd, it has been 8 months without revisions.

Put the timeline here for everyone's reference:
Submitted on April 22nd, the new system showed "under review". Waited for two weeks without any news, so I knew it was under review.
Returned on May 9th for major revisions, with over 30 pages of main text and a response letter of over 60 pages. It was truly difficult, as I had never written such a long response letter to AIChE before.
The reviewers were all experts and asked very professional questions. Added additional computational simulations and basically revised the entire article.
Returned on June 9th.
Accepted on July 25th.
Overall, it took 3 months. Just checked the official website, and the average time is 117 days. Seems like I was quite lucky, thanks to the expert reviewers and the editor for speeding up the process.
In conclusion, if not in a hurry to graduate, it's worth a try. But if urgent to graduate, better look for other options. The boss values this journal a lot, and the school compares it with its sub-journals. Finally, having one article published has fulfilled a wish. Now, let's continue working hard.
