So I resubmitted on September 21st, and it was transferred to "with editor" in 4 days (not the same editor as last time, so I don't know if I would have been rejected directly, haha). It showed "Under reviewer" on September 30th, and 7 reviewers were invited, 5 accepted. By October 13th, 5 reviewers had finished reviewing and I was asked to revise (due on November 3rd) (1 reviewer only pointed out a small writing issue, while the other 4 provided 5-7 questions each, and I made some changes to the abstract and figures). The revised manuscript was sent to 5 reviewers on October 25th, and only 4 accepted (probably the other one didn't find any issues). The second round of reviews was completed on November 4th, with one reviewer providing some additional comments (the other reviewers had no more issues, it was more of a personal preference of the reviewer, otherwise the paper might have been accepted at this stage). I made the second revision on November 5th, addressing the comments of this reviewer and resubmitted on November 6th. The reviewer had no more issues by November 10th, and the editor accepted the paper and sent it to production. Elsevier sent the proof on November 11th, and I submitted the final version on November 13th. It was a bumpy road, but the review process of this journal was relatively fast, and I was lucky to have it accepted before my defense.

Originally, the submission was probably on 8.20, there was a little misunderstanding, mainly because when I first submitted it, it was returned for revision due to the issue of repetition rate (35%). After 5 days of revision, I re-uploaded it on (8.26) (around 29%, it was really frustrating to revise so much, this plagiarism check is a bit crazy...), but after I re-uploaded it, it took me 2 more days to continue to reduce the similarity (worried that the previous reduction was not enough, reduced to 21%). At that time, I sent an email wanting to contact the editor to replace the uploaded manuscript (the status was still Submitted to Journal at that time), but there was no response. About 10 days later, the editor approved it and sent it for review (Under Review around 9.6), showing that 5 reviewers were sent, 3 accepted, 1 completed the review. It seemed to be going well, but when I checked on 9.20, it suddenly showed Completed - Withdrawn on 9.17, which left me confused. I checked my email and realized that the previous email requesting a change of manuscript was causing the confusion. It turned out that this email was received by the Elsevier administrator (I sent the email from the magazine submission interface, I don't know how it happened, sigh), and the Elsevier staff kept contacting the magazine editor saying that I wanted to change/withdraw the manuscript, resulting in it being withdrawn halfway through the review process...
