The Journal of Food Composition and Analysis publishes manuscripts on scientific aspects of data on the chemical composition of human foods, with particular emphasis on actual data on composition of foods; analytical methods; studies on the manipulation, storage, distribution and use of food composition data; and studies on the statistics, use and distribution of such data and data systems. The Journal's basis is nutrient composition, with increasing emphasis on bioactive non-nutrient and anti-nutrient components. Papers must provide sufficient description of the food samples, analytical methods, quality control procedures and statistical treatments of the data to permit the end users of the food composition data to evaluate the appropriateness of such data in their projects.

The Journal does not publish papers on: microbiological compounds; sensory quality; aromatics/volatiles in food and wine; essential oils; organoleptic characteristics of food; physical properties; or clinical papers and pharmacology-related papers.

Four reviewers and the editor provided over 90 comments, very professional, and the response document was nearly 20,000 words long.

One reviewer and editor provided feedback, not a lot of comments, but required major revisions.
03.12.25 With editor
25.12.25 Accepted
The reviewers provided feedback quickly each time, but it took almost a month for the editor to process after each round of revisions, possibly due to the editor also providing many comments.
Overall, it was a smooth submission process, with professional feedback from the reviewers and responsible handling by the editor. Hopefully, the journal will continue to improve!

Must spit out, never encountered such a procrastinating editor, the delay of reviewers can be understood, but the editor is so procrastinating is really bizarre. Submitted in July, the first invitation to 10 reviewers, 2 agreed to review, after the review was completed, RRC for three weeks, then the editor invited another 10 reviewers, 2 agreed to review, 4 reviewers completed the review and RRC for four weeks, the editor gave three weeks for major revisions, after the revisions, the editor sent to 2 reviewers, one returned with no comments on the same day, one returned after 16 days, saying he couldn't see the manuscript with formatting changes clearly. It took the editor more than three weeks to return with comments, and requested major revisions again. On the same day, uploaded revised manuscripts with and without formatting changes for another round of revisions, 9 days later the editor sent to 1 reviewer, who returned with no comments the next day, and it took the editor 22 days, today received a decision email from the editor, surprisingly it was a rejection, saying that the semi-quantitative relative odor activity values ​​do not meet the journal's requirements.
Never seen such a bizarre editor.
The whole process took nearly 7 months, with 5 months wasted in the editor's hands, will never submit to this bizarre magazine again.

Have you recently received any requests for money? Starting from January 1st, 2026, it will be fully transitioned to open access journals. It was said that submissions made before September 1st, 2025 do not need to pay, and I submitted mine in June 2025. Why did they send me a form to verify and proofread that requires payment? It seems to be the default option and cannot be changed. I have emailed the editor but have not received a response. Is it almost January 1st, 2026 and the system has been fully updated? My junior received acceptance on November 25th without having to pay.

This journal is very, very slow. The manuscript submitted in early July 2025 has been invited for review by 10 reviewers, five of whom have agreed to review it. From September, three reviewers have completed the review, to October four reviewers have completed it or rrc, and by November all five reviewers have completed rrc. Then there is no more progress, rrc has been stuck in December. Several reminders have been sent during this period, but there has been no response at all! I suspect that the editorial department may have given up!

It's too slow. With editor being silent for 25 days, it turned into OA and became even slower.
