The goal of the Journal of Food Science is to offer scientists, researchers, and other food professionals the opportunity to share knowledge of scientific advancements in the myriad disciplines affecting their work, through a respected peer-reviewed publication. The Journal of Food Science serves as an international forum for vital research and developments in food science.

The range of topics covered in the journal include:

-Concise Reviews and Hypotheses in Food Science
-New Horizons in Food Research
-Integrated Food Science
-Food Chemistry
-Food Engineering, Materials Science, and Nanotechnology
-Food Microbiology and Safety
-Sensory and Consumer Sciences
-Health, Nutrition, and Food
-Toxicology and Chemical Food Safety
The Journal of Food Science publishes peer-reviewed articles that cover all aspects of food science, including safety and nutrition. Reviews should be 15 to 50 typewritten pages (including tables, figures, and references), should provide in-depth coverage of a narrowly defined topic, and should embody careful evaluation (weaknesses, strengths, explanation of discrepancies in results among similar studies) of all pertinent studies, so that insightful interpretations and conclusions can be presented. Hypothesis papers are especially appropriate in pioneering areas of research or important areas that are afflicted by scientific controversy.

February 21: Major revisions with 40 comments, added three small experiments
March 22: Accepted without revisions
Now student members are $25, free of page charges, which is still good. Overall submission process took two and a half months. Hoping the new Chinese Academy of Sciences partition can be upgraded to the second zone.

It can be found online in less than two weeks after being published on the official website, which is considered fast compared to other journals. Less than a week after its first publication, it can also be found on Web of Science (WOS).

The rejection letter from my friend came within 10 days, which was very fast. I submitted my paper and it was sent back for major revisions after 40 days. After 28 days of revisions, it was sent back for minor revisions, which were completed in two days and then accepted.

The comments and questions raised by the editors and reviewers were very constructive, thorough, and responsible. They were not delaying at all and all their feedback was well-intentioned.

This is what a good journal should be like. It is a journal that has been established for almost 100 years, but it has been downgraded to a level 3 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is very frustrating.

I hope this journal will continue to improve and that those involved in the process will have a conscience.

The first revision feedback was received, with nearly 50 questions raised by the experts, and the suggestions were very professional. The journal editors were very strict. Unfortunately, today the journal's ranking was downgraded from Zone 2 to Zone 3 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is a bit regrettable.

Submitted on 23rd November 2024, the article was rejected due to a high similarity index of 10.30. After revisions on 11th November, it was resubmitted and went under review within 2-3 days. The review comments were received on 12th December, with feedback from three reviewers that was quite constructive. The authors were given 28 days for revisions. However, the process was delayed significantly due to revisions on another article. The revised article was finally returned on 8th January 2025. There were further delays due to authorship issues, as changes to the authors were not allowed after submission. The article was finally accepted on 6th March, with a second round of revisions scheduled for two months later, which was considered quite lengthy.

11.28 submitted for review, under review within one week. 12.29 received comments from four reviewers, with varying opinions (28 days for revisions). 1.23 revised submission returned. 2.15 reviewers all approved, editor requested minor language revisions and reducing the word count by 20%. 2.27 revised submission returned. 3.4 accepted for publication.

Overall, the efficiency is quite high, the editors are all good. Additionally, registering as a student member for only $50 allows for free submissions for a year!! What a great deal!! Also, it has been upgraded to a 2nd tier journal in recent years, everyone should give it a try.
