Initially, I wanted to submit to JFM, but my collaborator suggested I try PRF or JCP. However, I saw a similar article on JFM-rapid and decided to take a gamble on JFM-rapid. After successfully submitting, it was rejected. The reviewers and editor found it interesting, with two reviewers suggesting I submit to a general journal. However, the editor rejected it. I realized I would have to do more experiments and add method comparisons, feeling exhausted after spending over a year on this. I switched to PRF and POF, ultimately choosing POF.

When submitting to POF, I couldn't find reviewers. Luckily, I found two relatively inexperienced reviewers who suggested I cite more related articles from POF. However, the editor advised against citing irrelevant articles, removing two articles requested by the reviewers during the proofreading stage. I am grateful to the reviewers and editor.

It is challenging to break into the fluid dynamics community, and there are not many good journals for fluid dynamics. Although I love reading articles in JFM, I found the submission process to be mentally exhausting. This first article was a learning experience, helping me understand if it was worth it. It feels like I have seen the "health bar" of JFM!

I have never submitted to this journal, but I have heard of it. It's really eye-opening to see the diversity of species. I really look down on the quality of this journal; you can choose not to submit to it and instead submit to JFM, JCP, CMAME, or directly to the sub-journal. If you win and then turn your back on them, does that mean you will never submit to this journal again in the future?
