Do not take my speed as the norm. My article was accepted by the editing department in less than two months, but they kept asking me to submit original data and images. It may be related to the fact that I did not check the format of the journal website beforehand. After going back and forth with the technical department for 6 rounds of revisions, it was finally accepted. Now I am waiting for the production department to make the acceptance notice.

After three months of waiting, I was finally hired. There was a major revision process, but then the delay in data submission caused a month of time wasted. It was too slow. It was my first time submitting to this journal, just testing the waters, and I almost messed things up.

Submitted in July 2025, received a reply in December, reviewed by one reviewer and sent back for revisions in January 2026; returned by the end of March, approved for publication by one reviewer, but then another reviewer was added; revisions completed in April, accepted for publication in July, and started proofreading and payment for publication. Overall, adding an additional reviewer in the middle wasted time and delayed the process by six months.

The review cycle of PLOS One is relatively long, focusing on the reliability of basic research and the standardization of peer review, with average requirements for innovation and an unknown acceptance rate. If students are considering graduation and degree evaluation, they should consider other faster journals in SCI Zone 2! My submission experience in 2026 is that PLOS One significantly exceeded the expected review period of 3 months.

On Monday, August 17th, the editor sent me an email saying: "We’re pleased to inform you that your manuscript has been judged scientifically suitable for publication and will be formally accepted for publication once it meets all outstanding technical requirements." During the period of August 1st (Under Review) and August 16th (Decision in Process), I sent an email inquiring about the progress of the manuscript and was informed that feedback from three reviewers had already been received.
