Submitted in early April 25 years ago, the manuscript went through two rounds of revisions (major revision + minor revision) and was finally accepted after 275 days. Normally, the initial review takes about a month, and if you don't receive a rejection email within that time, it usually means the manuscript has been sent for external review. Due to the new submission system at Wiley, the details of the manuscript status are not visible on the system, and all manuscripts are listed as "Under Review," so if you want to know the status, you have to email the editor. Overall, the first round of external review depends on luck. If you are lucky enough to find suitable reviewers, it can be relatively quick. However, in my case, the first round of review took almost six months because the reviewers were not found promptly. After the first round of revisions, the second round only took a month for a decision, despite going through various holidays. Overall, the speed of review in this ABS 4 journal is considered fast. The editor and Area editor are very responsible, responding to emails promptly. The experience was good, and I may continue to submit similar types of articles in the future.
PS. It seems that the journal has high quality standards for manuscripts. I had to conduct additional experiments during the major revision round.

The initial review generally takes one month, and it takes another month for the editorial department to decide whether to send it for external review. External reviews take longer, so yours should have been sent for external review. You can send an email to inquire. The publication cycle for the article I recently accepted is 9 months.
