It took 22 months from submission to rejection, because the editor could not find enough reviewers and ended up reviewing the manuscript themselves. The reviewer raised some issues with the content and authorship in the first two rounds, and then rejected the manuscript in the final round citing lack of innovation. Moreover, the feedback provided in the last round seemed like the reviewer did not read the paper carefully. Each round of review took almost six months to start, and only yielded results after reminders. Several requests to retract the submission from Elsevier were denied. It is really frustrating why they dragged the process for so long and rejected the manuscript with insufficient reasons.

The submission was made on October 20th, but as of November 23rd, the status has not changed. The editing efficiency is disappointing.

Don't worry, nothing has progressed so far. It has been six months and there has been no movement. Submitted for a month, waiting for editor for a month, even if it is changed to "under review" status, it is still in the editor's hands. Under review for over a month, I received an email, thinking that the first review result was out. But the editor told me that they are still looking for reviewers. (ಥ_ಥ)

Now it's been with the editor for a month, and there's no movement at all.
Submitting two or three thousand articles is not a lot, if you want to reject, just reject quickly, it's really a waste of time.

My paper was rejected and resubmitted. The first time it was reviewed by two reviewers, and the second time by five reviewers. I am not sure if the five reviewers in the second round included the two from the first round.

I submitted it on June 03, 2024, and it is with the editor today (Aug 28,2024). 
How can a journal be so slow like that? Does anyone know how to withdraw from this journal I don’t find any proper outlines.
