After three rounds of review, the first round with one reviewer (minor revision), the second round with two reviewers (minor revision), and the third round with the editor-in-chief requesting open access to the code. The details of the review process are as follows:

AGU's high-end journals have high requirements, and many of the articles are from sub-journals. Submitted in May 25th, the first review took 4 months for major revisions, and it was sent back in September. The second review took 3 months for further major revisions, and it was sent back in December. It was finally accepted in mid-January. I feel that AGU's journal review process is very rigorous, and the editors also provide their own opinions, addressing the most crucial points of the paper. I have also previously submitted to a similar journal like GCB, and in terms of the review process, I believe EF is much stricter than GCB.

The EF was submitted in mid-January this year, with a timeline of one month to find an editor and four months to find reviewers. During this period, I couldn't bear the idea of withdrawing the submission. Finally, I decided to email the editorial office, and the response was very positive. They said they were also trying their best to find reviewers, and luckily they did. It can only be said that the review speed of the journal does need to be improved. When submitting manuscripts, everyone should be mentally prepared and not panic if they are in a hurry. Be bold and polite in sending emails to inquire about the status.

The journal is a good journal, with a top journal in comprehensive geography in addition to the main journal. It feels similar to CEE and One Earth, and the review process is very professional and detailed, but it is really slow.

I submitted in October last year, it took more than a month to find reviewers, and I didn't receive a decision until early February this year. There were a lot of comments and a minor comment, so I was given a reject and resubmit. I revised and resubmitted in April, but it wasn't until the end of June that reviewers were found, and it wasn't until late July that a decision was made. It felt like the first reviewer was the same person who gave a major revision last time, and the other two were new. They all gave minor comments that required further clarification. This time the revision and resubmission process was quite fast, with results in just two weeks.

My EF took about a year from start to finish... Why is everyone else so fast? I submitted it at the end of May 24, and got the initial feedback in early September. Because the revisions were extensive, the editor gave me a reject and resubmit. I resubmitted in early October after making the revisions, and got feedback at the end of March 25, after finding new reviewers... So, there were a total of four reviewers for my article. After revisions, it was accepted in May 25. In summary, the first round of review took 3 months, the second round took 5 months, mainly because the first round reviewers did not accept the revision, so finding new reviewers took more time. I personally feel that the reviewers are very strict and the questions are very sharp. Additionally, I also submitted an article to CEE, and I feel that the review process was faster, and the editor was more efficient, although I put a lot of effort into that article. I feel that the two journals are similar, and I hope their impact factors will increase!

EF should be one of the top journals in the field of global change, with many studies in the fields of physical geography as well as interdisciplinary research in social and economic areas. Apart from its sub-journals, it may only be slightly weaker than GCB and GEC. The submission process is as follows:

Each round takes about a month and a half, which is considered efficient. However, one drawback is that each submission has to be reviewed by the AGU editorial team for several days before being assigned to the handling editor. The handling editor's decision also needs to be reviewed by the AGU editorial team for a week before sending the author a decision letter, which can slow down the process.
