The traditional Chinese style of long and tedious literature review is not to the taste of Trends; they prefer reviews with sharp academic insights and clear viewpoints. They also engage in more in-depth and frequent communication with the authors, which ultimately helps improve the quality of the manuscript. Compared to the traditional Elsevier system template submission experience, the Cell Press is clearly more personal and engaging.

The manuscript was transferred from Trends in Biotechnology, and the editor showed great interest in it, so it was eventually successfully published. The submission process had some twists and turns. It took over a year to polish an aircraft carrier-style review article, as I wanted to use this opportunity to conduct research for a new project. I had always wanted to submit to TREBT, but I noticed during the formal submission that all review articles in the Trends series have strict word limits, with the main text limited to 3600-4000 words. This forced us to delete a large amount of content and streamline the core story. Additionally, they all operate on an invitation-only basis, requiring all submissions to first send a Proposal within 500 words. After sending the Proposal to the editor, Matthew felt it was not biological enough and informed me via email that he and Jessica from TRECHEM discussed it and believed the manuscript would be better suited for Trends in Chemistry.
