The Journal of Linnean Society is a long-established classic journal with strict requirements for detail. This is the most detailed submission guide I have ever seen. I heard before submitting that the submission process is very long, so I was mentally prepared. I heard that the long process is mainly due to the slow speed of the editorial department. If the revisions are not done properly, there will be repeated waiting in the queue for processing at the editorial office, which will prolong the process. Therefore, when revising, I tried to solve as many problems as possible and repeatedly checked the format. Almost all freelance articles that meet the academic standards for publication after review need to be returned to the authors for revision of their wording and editing format before publication, such as compressing the length of the article, redesigning tables, improving the quality of illustrations, and restricting the use of irregular abbreviations. However, returning the manuscript to the author for revision does not mean that the article has been accepted. Whether the article is finally accepted depends on whether the author's modifications to the key content and wording of the article meet the requirements of the reviewers and editors. 

The materials typically returned to the author for revision include the original manuscript, reviewers' comments, and a covering letter from the editor. When authors receive the revised manuscript, they should first carefully read the revise letter and reviewers' comments. Then they should consider whether they are able or willing to accept the opinions of the reviewers or editor and make modifications to the manuscript. The likelihood of the article being accepted can be seen from the response of the editor and reviewers to the revised manuscript. 

Do not rush the revisions. Read and understand the reviewers' comments repeatedly. Answer each comment from the reviewers one by one; indicate specifically the locations that have been revised in the revised manuscript (page, lines); write back to the editor, thank them for their revision suggestions, and explain the reasons for any parts that have not been modified according to their suggestions
