5. After the Awaiting reviewer score status, it is Awaiting AE recommendation, during which the AE makes the decision to revise or reject, usually within a week, but some AE may delay.

6. After the AE recommendation, it goes back to the DE, who compiles all the opinions and presents them to the EIC for a decision. This process may be slow (within 2 weeks) because the DE often has to deal with many manuscripts.

Another situation is that the IBE editor-in-chief seems to have very high language requirements. Therefore, after the DE confirms that there are no technical issues and gives an accept recommendation, the editor-in-chief will still make modifications and annotations on each paper to be accepted, and may then suggest minor revisions. After the authors make the revisions and submit them, it goes directly to the EIC without being assigned to the DE again, and this stage is very fast. Because the editor-in-chief personally reviews and annotates each paper, it often takes a long time for IBE papers to receive the official accept email.

After reading the comments, many students have questions about the status of the IBE submission system (ScholarOne system). Let me explain and help alleviate everyone's waiting anxiety.
1. Awaiting DE Assignment means your manuscript/revised manuscript has been sent to the EIC for assignment to an appropriate Deputy Editor, usually completed within 1 week. The DE will then select an Associate Editor (AE, equivalent to Elsevier's handling editor) to make a decision or continue with peer review.
2. Awaiting reviewer selection indicates that the AE has received the manuscript/revised manuscript and can either select reviewers for peer review or make a decision directly. Changes are expected within 1 week, but some AEs may delay.
3. Awaiting reviewer assignment shows that the AE has sent your manuscript for review, and at least one reviewer has accepted the invitation. The subsequent changes in status depend on whether the reviewers accept the invitation.
4. If the required number of reviewers (default is 2, but can be modified by the AE) accept the invitation, the status will change to Awaiting reviewer score.
